Voice of Tibet and Democratic Voice of Iran Recap
By Nick Grace
July 10, 1998

Unconfirmed sources tell CRW that the Voice of Tibet and the Democratic Voice of Iran do receive funding from a common source, as speculated in "Iranian and Tibetan Clandestine May be Related" from CRW 1 (April 2, 1998).

CRW has learned that Worldview Rights, a Norwegian-based NGO, sponsored the establishment of the Democratic Voice of Iran (DIVA) as part of its ongoing campaign to "provide a voice for the voiceless."The NGO is already known to sponsor the Voice of Tibet (VOT).

A spokesman for Worlview Rights declined to comment.

Worldview Rights is also funding the Democratic Voice of Burma and Nigeria's Radio Kudirat.

Democratic Voice of Iran
The station broadcast between May 1997 and November 1998 via commercial transmitters in Tajikistan. Although known to be based in Europe, the group behind the operation never revealed itself and claimed, in fact, to be independent of religious and political factions.
