Serbia: Media Seized by Demonstrators By Nick Grace October 5, 2000
Confirming wire reports, Serbian opposition Radio B2-92 has announced major media developments during the "people's power" revolution in Belgrade against Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.
"(D)ense black cloud of smoke is coming from the direction of the state television building," B2-92 reports on its website. FoxNews and CNN reports have also reported that during the early stage of the attack on state-run radio and television, television viewers were greeted with a tape recording of a musical concert. State television is now reported to be off the air. "Radio Television Serbia," Radio B2-92 reports, "is not broadcasting on either of its two channels..."
In another major development, FoxNews announced at 1800 UTC that Politika TV was also seized by crowds and it has broadcast intermittently with live announcements by opposition leaders.
Radio B2-92, which is the online presence of opposition Radio B92 since B92 was grabbed by the Government last year, also announces that it has now returned to the airwaves in Belgrade on 92.5 MHz.
